First and foremost, always get permission to hunt a site, even when it is a public place like a beach or park, one way Ito get permission is to offer a free service, for instance, ask the caretaker if they would like you to remove all the sharp metal objects buried in the sand, like flip tops, and crushed cans, provided you can keep or properly dispose of what is found, they are more likely to allow you access if they get something useful out of it, like having their beach cleaned and unsafe items removed, and feel free to show them what hazards you have removed from their patrons harm, so they will allow you to return often, of course you don't show the coins, jewelry, or valuables you also sifted out of the sand

Theres a really good feeling That goes with removing that Trash. It's kinda bitter sweet cuz I know we all want to shake that Scoop and hear the sound of a Coin or Ring. Far to often tho It's the Pulltap, bottletop, Piece of rusty metal or even glass wich Stinks until you look around at all the little Kids running around barefoot & digging thru the sand with there hands and the thought of keeping the odds down by removing that trash may just keep one kid from getting hurt. All that Glitters may not be Gold or Silver but Finding the Junk and removing it does have a Glitter all it's own. It doesn't get any better than that. With all it's benefits outside of finding valuables....ie Removing potential Dangers, returning a Lost Memory, Bringing History back to life and so on, How can anyone Not Love what we do ?

Wow, I never thought of it that way - just makes me realize how much more awesome this hobby really is. Next time I pull out a nail or a rusted can or anything else potentially dangerous, instead of being disappointed it's not a coin or a relic, I'll just think about the service I'm doing for my community.
