Default All Around Detector? Sand and Soil?

I currently own a Garrett GTAx 550. I like it, the target id, and pinpointing (to me) is excellent.

I found that using this one on the beach close to the water is impossible since it does not have any type of ground balancing.

I would like a multiple use detector if possible, or do I really need to own more than one type (Beach vs. non-Beach) to get the best of both worlds?

Here is what I am looking for…

1. Detector that would work well on the sand, beach, and grassy ground
2. Detector that has a target id
3. Detector that has multiple tones
4. Multiple segments.

(it seems that Beach type models do not have the target ID, probably because of water)

I have looked at Whites, Tesoso, Garrett, and MineLab but I am not sure which one to buy.

I would appreciate your input. When I am ready I will look first towards the sponsors here to make my purchase.

Thank you,
Patrick

The two that come to mind are Whites M6 with a DD coil or Fisher CZ series detectors. The Whites site has free video's of the M6 doing quite a bit on beach and grass.

I'm still very much in the learning mode but our Whites BeachHunter seems to be doing well in a variety of settings

Welocme. The 550 is a decent detector.
Whites has the BeachHunter ID and M6. Tesoro has the Cortes or DeLeon , Fisher has the CZ3D Or Edgeand Minelab has the X50 and X70. Any of these will work well on the beach with target ID. The BeachHunter is also waterproof. Give me a call and we can talk it over.

Hi Toni,

Thanks for the Feedback.

I checked out your recommendations. I like the Fishers but my thoughts are based on how the units appear. The Fishers appear to be more advanced than the Tesoro. The Minelabs seem like the shaft does not adjust and I read you have to use multiple coils.

I really want to find a good all around machine (beach and soil)

The Fisher Edge is more inline with my pocketbook. Can you email some pricing info? Patrick(at)Surfthru.com.

And... what you would recommended if I am looking at the price range of the Edge. Is this the one to pick?

Thanks again!

Patrick

Hi Patrick, Tony has made some nice suggestions for you. I was going to suggest the Minelab Explorer SE but I understand your wanting to keep it down. The ID Edge is one that I haven't spent much time with and need to. By reading the forums on Fisher the Edge seems to get a vey good report. If I can help too Patrick just give me an email or call. Hi Tony I hope you are doing well my friend. God Bless y'all both.

Hey Patrick. Just go to my site and you'll see all the prices there. The Edge is another one of those under rated detectors. Fisher has been somewhat bitten by the sale to First Texas and I think unjustly so. I stand by them unless they do somethign to change my mind. So , go have a look see and let me know what you think.
Hey John same to you my friend.

Default Garrett GTP 1350 vs. Whites M6

Tony I read your suggestions and I have been doing some reading about the M6 and the other detectors you recommended.

I compared the M6 to the next level of Garrett (GTP 1350) since I know the Garrett (had an Ace 250 at first).

So overall the cost of the 1350 and M6 are close to the same. The GTP 1350 has more features (profiling, notching) . Not sure if the M6 has auto ground balancing.

Between these two units, what is the best choice? Does the M6 have the depth of the GTP 1350?

They are head to head detectors mostly. The better deal right now is the 1350 which has the free coil. I'd look there first since you get more for your money. Performance is a toss up in my opinion.

Good call, Tony.

In addition, the 1350 has:

adjustable threshold for IDing really deep
backlit display
volume and tone control
1 button change between search modes (M6 has 2 modes, you can customize the 1350 and choose to change between 5 modes)
frequency adjust
hip mountable battery pack

over the M6.

The M6 has:

7 multitones
VCO pinpointing and search

over the 1350.
