Default Old Farm House

Hi everyone, was a nice day hear in Somerset County PA today. Got out and did a little hunting. Hunted the former Somerset Co Jail yard, found some clad but nothing real old. Then I went to my wifes family farm. The home was built in the mid 1800's. I thought this would be a mecca for old coins, boy was I in for a suprise. I got my DFX out and was going to use the stock Jewelry and Coin Program. My brother in law thought a good place to start would be around the Summerhouse. When I fired up the DFX it was so unstable it couldn't be used. The signagraph had a constant bar at +95 and icons were going crazy. It was so bad that it couldn't be used in the stock program. I lowered the sensitivity to 50 and it worked ok but it seemed that the deepest it would go was around 2 to 3 inches. I was giving up a lot of depth for the decreased sensitivity. Any ideas on why my detector was so unstable? There weren't any overhead on underground electric wires. They were some ashes in the ground. Any ideas on what I could do to my detector to get it to work and also get the depth that I need to properly hunt the property. There just has to be some real nice coins on the property. My wifes family have been farming it since the mid 30's and I know that it has never been detected before.

Thanks in advance for your replies,

I have a very similar situation My great grandparents property is across from me and I know my great grandfather bought it from his uncle but I cannot find any coins. I have an ace 250 and it just goes nuts but the best I found is 2 clad pennies 1973 and 1984. I have tried all the setting suggestions I have gotten from the veterans but my machine still goes nuts constantly and no coins. This property has to be full of stuff. I just hope I can figure out how to find it.

Default Hey Julie...

...if you are willing to invest in a telephone call to Treasure Hut at (303) 881-6748, I will try my best to help you out with the use of that ACE 250, making any suggestions that may help to you based on the conversation and what you have to say.

Welcome to TQ. I'm sure someone with a DFX here may be able to help you out. You can also check out the " DFX only " forum and get some help there. Bunch of nice folks there. I had a DFX but it was to much for me. It could be you need a different program or something else than what your using or doing. I believe that with the right program you can make a DFX fly. They are that good but theres alot to learn with them. I hope this helps in some small way. There should be some nice finds there just waiting to be dug up. Good Luck & HH.
