Default Old Farms - How

Hi, around where I live there are alot of old farms, and I think quite a few have not been searched. My question is, I need some tips on how and where I should start to hunt them.

Thanks as always!

Those old farm houses can have some good finds. If at all possible, find any history about them from some of the old timers. See if you can find where they may have had get togethers. One thing too keep in mind is that the old farm houses usually will have a lot of iron that can mask a lot and can be quite frustrating. Best of luck,

Eric

As far as the iron goes is it better to dig it up and then go back over it, or should you try to work around it?

If you have a small coil (4"), you can try to go over it and pick things out between the trash, but sometimes and if you have the time, you need to dig the stuff out first. Depends on how much time and patience you have.

All the hints are good ones. This is a long shot but, the old timers would bury things and money around or in the barn floor. My dad found a jar of money about 20 years ago in the dirt floor of the barn at his house. Cash and coins. The barn and house were built around 1900. Also look under old big trees.

Fence post were also used for hiding money cache's. Go slow through iron and give your detector time to see everything. Going too fast is a common error especially in iron.
