Default Lead and Gold???

can anybody tell me if lead and gold have the same tone or am I missing something?
I'm using a Gold Bug 2

Here in Britain are saying is, " If you are finding Lead,then you won't miss the Gold".
So keep going,you'll get there.

For the reply I thought they sounded the same just wanted to make sure.
been going out to a place that we do alot of panning and get pinhead size and flakes.
I guess finding the lead is good practice.
