Default Need info for taking my metal detector to Hawaii

I am new to this hobby and having a blast. I am heading to Maui in a few weeks and want to take my new detector any restrictions I should know about? Any helpful hints would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Hi Kelly,
I never been to Hawaii but would say that if it isn't posted on the beaches then I would say it would be free to detect.
You might want to ask the locals. Also I bet if you would go to the beaches at day break you will see people detecting.

Good luck to ya and please post here any of your finds.

Just got back last month from Honolulu. No restrictions on public beaches but stay out of the parks. Best time to hit the beach is early evening as it gets crowded early. People start to leave about 6-6:30. Leaves you about an hour and a half of decent light to hunt.

Red face Hawaii

I have hunted on the beaches there several times and it is great. The State law is you can dig in the sand on the beaches, but you cannot dig in the ground anywhere. The beaches there get checked regularly by the locals, but there are always new finds everyday. I found a beautiful silver braclet that was thick and old, also came back last time with a sandwich bag full of coins. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS TO NEVER TURN YOUR BACK ON THE OCEAN IT DEMANDS RESPECT, IT WILL TAKE YOUR LIFE. The waves seem to come out of no where sometimes and they will knock you down so hard and drag you away. The last time I was there a Father was trying to help his small child that was knocked down and he was knocked down and they both drowned. Just be carefull and you can have a great time.
