Default Which coil.

Due in no small part to my charming personality, or should that be "in spite of", I've finally got permission to search 8 acres of what used to be church land before the 1900's. The land, which includes an old rectory has been sold many, many times since it was owned by the church.

Two months ago the current owners allowed me to search a small patch of thier land and I managed to find twenty Victorian coins ranging from a rather nice farthing to half pennies, pennies and a quite nice silver sixpence. It turns out that the land was regularly used for church fetes and other village gatherings. All the coins were at or round about 6 inches down.

Now, after a bit of humming and hawing and examination of the rather small holes I dug in thier lawn, i,ve got permission to search the lot.

My question is this. I have the stock coil that came with the Explorer SE, but I also have a 14 inch Excelerator EQ2 pro coil. Which coil would be best to use?

Will using the larger coil for greater depth result in missing smaller coins closer to the surface?

Default I Believe...

You would be far better off using your stock coil over that Excelerator. You will tend to miss small coins and other small targets with a 14" coil.

I'm sure others will have varying opinions, but that has been my experience.

Stick with the smaller one, until you feel you have REALLY cleaned out the stuff that is not as deep.

Then go to the 14 inch one for the deeper stuff.

Sounds like a cunning plan Baldrick, I'll go with that one then.
