Question Detector Settings

Okay, I'm sure somebody can help clear this up for me. My detector has a three way switch between Tone Discrimination - All Metal Mode - and Full Discrimination in addition to two dials (one for Sensitivity and one for Discrimination). When I am in Tone mode, I get high pitched sounds for pennies, dimes, and quarters and low pitched sounds for nickels, jewelry, and pop tabs. If I switch over to full discrimination, I get the same high pitched sounds for what I mentioned above, but the things that usually give low pitched sounds, I get nothing. Am I to assume that I should use the Tone Discrimination so that I can differentiate between the high and low pitch sounds? And if so, does that mean if I ever want to find nickels or jewelry, I'm going to have to dig up all the low sounds too? That means I'll be digging A TON of pull tabs and other garbage. I don't have a top of the line detector - it's a Bounty Hunter - but do the more expensive detectors still have that same basic working principle? I'm having a blast finding pennies, dimes, and quarters (don't get me wrong) but I'd love to start turning up some rings and other jewelry.
Thanks in advance everyone!

Default Gold jewelry is an alloy

it is mixxed with all kinds of different metals in different percentages.... i found a pair of gold earings in a ball park.... all day long i dug nothing but pull tabs...as i was leaving the field i got another pull tab signal... i was gonna pass it up... i told myself if i dig it now it wont be here next time... so i dug...and i get a matching pair of gold earrings. pics and storie is posted on here.. more often than not i do not use any discrimination at all.... yes I DIG ALOT OF PULL TABS AND BEER BOTTLE CAPS... but seein yellow in the bottom of hole will make happy enough to scream. some will argue with me... but so far this year i have like 3 silver rings, a silver cross, couple of fake jewelry rings, and the gold earings. ... plus pounds of scrap aluminum, pull tabs, wire, cans,.... its just a matter of how much patience you have and how much diggin ya wanna do

hope this helps ya some... good luck, happy huntin, and most importantly DIG IT ALL

Thanks for the advice Bill. I probably should just start digging everything - it's just the places I've been digging seem to be old picnic areas with so much aluminum cans and pop tabs that it seems that's all I would find. So I'm guessing that everyone has the same problem as me even if they have a much more expensive detector. Oh well, I suppose I can just save all the scrap metal I find and then take it to the recycling center - I hear prices are really high now - especially for copper.
