Default VibraProbe 560 and Meteorites

I just recently got a VibraProbe 560 and have been testing it on all sorts of different metals. It responds to iron, nickel, copper, silver, gold, brass stainless steel and so on. So, just for grins and giggles I pointed it at some iron/nickel meteorites I have collected over the years, and to my surprise the VibraProbe did nothing!!!! Not even a little quiver, a shudder or a shake. What up with that. Can anybody explain what is going on.

Some facts on the meteorites below:

Originally Found: Quanxi (guang_she) Province, Nandan (Nan tan) County , China

Official Classification: Iron-Nickel.Octahedrites have, an intermediate content of nickel and contains taenite and kamacite, and magnetite/Fe3O4. Nantans have a general chemical composition of Fe 92.35%, Ni 6.96%, with several rare trace elements such as C, Cu, Co, S, P, Cr, Ga, Ge, As, Sb, W, Re. It is the cross-intersecting of the two main metal minerals, Taenite and Kamacite, in their respective and distinctive planes that creates the Widmanstatten design

Here are some pictures of the Non Reponsive Iron lumps from space.
The small piece stuck to the roundish meteorite is a rare earth magnet
which sticks really well to the meteorites. My new X Terra 70 responses
with a -8 or 48 and then overload "OL" when very close to it in All Metal
Mode.

Default Don't Know

Anything really about meteorites but maybe the other minerals that are in there cancel the Iron, nickle out. I know there are Meteorite Buffs on this Site so I'm sure someone will have an opinion. Really COOL Photo's.

Hello Commander,
I am very sorry to inform you, but you have been ripped off, those are lumps of oxidized iron, hematite. I'll bet you got them off of EBay. The Iron Nantan meteorites from are metal, you would get a -8 maybe a -6 on the xterra-70. If you cut one of those it would not be very hard to cut and you will see black interior and not iron/nickel alloy. If you get a slice off of it I will etch it for you for free to show you that there is no widmanstatten pattern.

I know this because I and many others have bought one of these on EBay. If you want to see what a Nantan looks like look at the photo below. I want you to know that I am not trying to be rude or disrespect you ion any way. I am very happy to see that I am not the only meteorite collector on this site. Invite you to join my meteorite forum at The SkyRock Cafe meteorite forum

By the way the Xterra-70 is one mean machine, I love it, it has to be one of the best purchases that I have ever made, Thanks John Tomlinson from John's Detectors.

Best Wishes,
Joe Kerchner
