Default Permission?

Do you need permission to hunt at a public school? I thought of going to my grade school and hunting on the kickball field and under the jungle gym. Is that what people mean when they say "tot lots"?

Shools always have a lot to offer. Lost change and stuff at the playground. It's really good pratice and you can learn your machine while finding allot of coins. I have done it allot and nobody has ever bothered me except for a few kids that wanted to know what I was looking for. Worst part is onnce you show them what you have found, sometimes they ask to have your finds. Always be nice and it will spark interest in the hobbie. Buster

I had never encountered a problem hunting schools until last week, I was at an elementary school and a van pulled up and told me Nobody can be on school grounds after hours. I explained that I was just mt the play ground and he said I needed to see the Superintendand for permission. I left and this week got permission from them to hunt all area 4 schools.
So It is worth getting permission to hunt any area. Good luck.

Hi DirtDigger,

There was a thread about this earlier. I stopped at a police station just down the road from the school I wanted to detect and they were very noncommital and told me to check with the school district. Well, I tried, got nothing but a run around. From the other thread a good point was brought up: It is public property that our are tax dollars are paying for. So what I've decided (haven't acted on it yet) is that I will hunt whenever I get around to it, except during school hours or functions.

If I can find the previous thread, I'll post the link.

Good luck!

Usually schools are no problem but as Gordiesgirl says sometimes you may be challenged.

Default i hunt all area schools

the wife and i hunt all the elementary middle and high schools around here. our high school campus has base balls fields tennis courts and pool. the football field is not far from us either. we never go during school hours, while any function is going on, or after sun set.

there have been a few cases of vandalism in the area over past couple years and the schools have video cams every where. we have been huntin and the local officers drive by and just wave or keep going. we have never been stopped or questioned at schools. we did have a volunteer grounds keeper at a public park warn us he was gonna turn the sprinklers on if we didnt leave. we did nt pay him any mind and kept diggin for another hour or so.

some school district may have different policy. but be courteous and helpful and they will remeber ya as a good guy.

ALWAYS BACK FILL HOLES. MOST ESPECIALLY ON SCHOOL GROUNDS. it could ruin yer world to think a lil one broke a leg in a hole you didnt fill in.

best of luck and as always

happy huntin

Wow - I gotta start paying more attention. I started that last thread too - sorry everyone. Seems like I'm still learning all the time and asking the same questions more than once - eventually it'll all get through this thick skull of mine.
