I just read an article in another forum about all metal modes. I understand what all metal mode is about.
Basically, what the poster stated was ,he liked to detect in an all metal mode becasue he could locat all the targets, good or bad. He would then just swap over into a disc setting to check out his target. He went on to say that in an all metal mode the coil would pick up close by whereas if he was hunting in a disc mode the coil almost has to be on top of the target. But he said there are times, mainly in trash areas, that he likes to hunt in a disc mode but most of his time is in all metal. OK>I havent ordered it yet but the M6 in my understanding doesnt have an all metal mode does it. Help me out here Billde. But, the MXT does ID iron in the all relic mode. So here I go again. Thanks John |

The guys that posted this stated that he likes to hunt in an all metal mode, then when he hits a target, he switches to a discriminate mode to give him an idea of what target could be. I would not be able to do that with the M6 or the MXT.
I see why know many of you guys thats been around a while like the XL pro. I did a search on google for "XL Pros for sale",lol. Im actually thinking back toward a Vanquero now because I know they can put a trigger on that machine to swap it back and forth from All Metal to a discriminate mode. Only draw back it does not have multiple tones. I dont need a TID. Thanks John |

Hi John,
It seems your jumping all over the place and hoping to find a magic bullet detector and there isn't one and you can read all about what others do when using their detectors then try it yourself and may think they were NUTS ![]() You stated you don't need target ID then don't buy an ID type detector and just dig the beeps on the Vaquero. I have have a Minelab Advantage as my main beep dig detector and it's one of the deepest detectors i have. Don't worry about all that is discussed on the forums as the gospel truth to operate any detector especially when newer to the hobby. The main thing is to have fun and learn with a detector that is most suited to your objectives and what type sites are you mainly plan to hunt. I rarely use all metal mode but like to use as little discrimination as possible and some detectors utilize tone id,some have the disc knob easily accessible to find where the discpoint is and as you stated some detectors can easily switch from all metal to disc mode with just a flick of the toggle. No matter what you decide to buy just learn it and have FUN. HH Bill |

While it has been fun so to speak, learning everything I can,it can be worrisome. Wish you were nearby.
Ok,let me try and do this and please respond, and everyone else also. I really wanna hunt coins, old coins in old places. I wanna hit some old beach sites. I will (and it will be the first places I go when I get a new machine) hit a couple parks and schools to get acquainted with the detector. Ok,back in my hunting days I found some very very old home sites. One has a grave with dates back in the 1800s and a masons emblem on it. Another, a friend owns it, it belonged to like a great great great granddad that fought in the civil war but that place was owned before him by his wifes grandparents. The houses, buildings are gone. I know I will have to hunt for the nails and try to get a picture from what Im uncovering as to where maybe the house was located. So, I guess my question is, concerning the M6, can the M6 or will it be usefull for this sort of thing and, if you think it is ,what coils will I need. If not what machine would you suggest? For now, this will be the only machine I could get. I will get another one down the road. I really like the Vanquero and have considered it with a mod for a switch to swap back and forth from all metal to disq. But the M6 and multiple tones has my interest for now. Thank very much John |

Gator, I use the M6 and can't say enough about it. You can use it in an all tone mode or with VDI or both. I'm just now getting the hang of it. I have used it on beachs in both wet and dry conditions. Worked great and have also dug a lot of neat relics with it. I find with the exception of an occasional pull-tab its right on when it comes to identifying coins. Has a nice high pitched sound when your over silver. I found by reading reviews on the various detectors out there gave what I needed to make a decision. But I will have to agree with Bill, the whole idea is to have fun. Good luck on your search.

I may have missed it from an earlier post, but what price range are you looking at?

I hate to confuse or complicate your decision any further, but, have you considered the Prizm V ??? Correct me if I'm wrong, but pretty sure it can be switched between All Metal / Disc mode. And I believe the target ID feature works in the All Metal mode anyway.
I know I've been reading up on both the Prizm IV and the V, and I'm thinking of asking " SANTA " for one.... ![]()

lol, at first I thought maybe around 500 bucks should get me goin well after pricing coils, headphones and machine it was a bit more than that.
But I think Im gonna go with the M6. I gotta start somewhere and it seems like a good start and later if I get another,Ill keep the M6 if not for anything but to let someone else try it out. Thanks to all of you, John |
