Default Batteries, how they effect your detector

Just wondering how fresh batteries effect your MD over batteries that are just about at the end of their life span.I,m not saying dead ,just getting weaker. Will that weaken the output signal?

I absolutely believe it will...I hunted an area knowing the batteries were weak to purposely see the difference...replaced the batteries...scanned the same area and found 3-4 coins that the old batteries never detected...

I agree with this also. The X-Terra does show a 1/2 icon as batteries start to go down. I noticed one day I was getting wierd signals, looked at meter and saw the 1/2. Replaced batts wierd signals went away, Beale.

Power from the batteries has to run the Transmit Signal, Amplify the Receive Signal, transmit that through either the Speaker or Headphones and also operate a VDI Meter if the detector has one.

With low or almost dead batteries, one of those features has to suffer. I found on my old White's, the signal would become very erratic and the Disc signals were acting weird also. Sure enough,,, batteries getting weak.

I run my X TERRA 70 on rechargable cells (AA 2900mAh Power cell). When
the low battery icon shows 1/2 I change the cells out. I carry a spare set
of Energizer AA LITHIUM e2® and use them to finish the hunt. When I get
home I recharge the Power cells and replace the LITHIUMs in the MD. This
has been my SOP all year long and I am still running the same LITHIUM
batteries, which are doing just fine when needed.

Detectors have a DC to DC voltage regulator that will keep the voltage pulled up even when the batteries are getting low. They also will protect the circuits from spikes in the voltage and shutdown when they are sensed by the regulator. Of course there is a point that the regulator will not be able to keep the battery voltage pulled up and will shutdown also. IC's and zener diodes can be used. I use my batteries almost to the shutdown point. I have a friend that is a longtime Fisher CZ user and he found that when his batteries were getting very low that the CZ was much more hotter on nickels. Ok just my feedback and as always God Bless everyone.

I think I just get paranoid when My batteries are getting low and change them. John is probably right about them working just fine until a low battery warning comes on. JC

I take my batteries fairly low, however if hunting a spot I've been researching I'll put a fresh set in.

Default Batteries ?

You mean ya have to put batteries in these things ? And Here I thought every place I go has been hunted to death On my Wilson, there is a meter for each of the 2 batteries with a Red, Yellow & Green area, when it hits the Yellow I change the Batteries as the one time I let them get to the Red area I noticed a change in it's performance. On my Vequero and Surfmaster, I did not notice any change when the batteries started getting low but will change them Right away.

With my Explorer, if I go out with less than a full charge, I'll carry my extra battery pack with me. I haven't noticed a drop in performance, actually one of my better finds was with only about 1-2 bars left.
