I'm still fairly new to detecting and haven't been out much, but I've had a couple of exciting finds. Well, exciting to me, but pretty darned boring on the scale of what everyone else around here seems to find. So far I've kept all my best finds in a...well, quite literally a 12x6x6" replica treasure chest. In it I have: a 1941 quarter & a 1945 penny I found on my property; a souvenir penknife from the 1933 Chicago World Expo which I found in my creek; a silver ring; some small silvery pellet thingy's; and several silver charms. The silver ring wasn't any big deal - it was bent out of shape and missing one of the "stones" - certainly not worth returning. But if I found a piece of jewelry that was really "wow"...I'd do my darnd'est to return it.

So far, I've kept everything except for the trash which I throw away and modern circulating coins which I spend or put aside to tumble if they need it. Never kept track of my finds until I joined TQ

I have a plastic container that I have been putting all my finds in form down here in Florida. When it gets full enough I will clean them and turn the new stuff in. I will keep the old stuff. I was looking at a bunch of my finds from Deleware hunting from a few years ago. Lots of clad, some rings, watch parts, tokens, a braclet, some silver coins (don't tell Guido that one), one 1900 quarter, one 1895 nickel, and some other assorted stuff,. I will keep all of my old stuff because I found them doing a hobby that I really like. It is a good hobby and I am hooked.... Buster....

I keep my finds. I'm in it for the thrill, not for the money. Don't get me wrong if I found an extremely valuable coin, I may consider(like that'll happen).

I have kept everything I have found so far. Up to now by favorite finds are.
1. My military pin. It is probably not worth much, but I really like it. 2. My Bus token I found. It was in my wifes grandmothers yard an a favorite of mine. 3. My 1st silver: 1940 Mercury dime. I will never forget that. All my good finds are right now in a safe place. My clad is being saved. I plan to buy something for this hobby with it, Beale.

Hi, tkl. I keep most of the gold finds. If it is a class ring, I try to return it. I have not been able to find the owners yet and I had one bad experience with one class ring where someone at the school said, "Send it to me and I will see that they get it." I did not send it because I want to return it personally plus you never know if they are being sincere. I left my number and no one has called as yet.
As for wedding rings, I have only found 2 that had any hope of being returned. One had a name inside but searching the white pages did not turn up anything. The other had an International Gem Institute serial number on it but the owner had not paid the $25 to register it so it cannot be traced back. I hear that some people sell their finds. You can probably get more money for an item than for its gold value. I think it is risky and you are taking a risk if a stone falls out or something like that. Coins are a different animal and some folks have done quite well selling them while others seem to hold on to them. I use the clad I find for upgrades to my equipment, for the TQ raffle and for toll booths!

Hi TK, I just keep everything because most all of what I find here in West Texas is coins or relics. I have been working the Downtown Sweetwater,Tx. area for about a year and a half now and have found mostly coins and some relics and cheap rings. I did find the antique ladies wrist watch 2 summers ago that is an old Hamilton in 14K white gold with 41 diamonds by my count. Ok happy hunting everyone and in the meantime God Bless.
