i have an xlt, great on land for relics or coins, also can be used in water (without submerging control box). the coil is fully waterproof and it works great on the beach.

I agree on the XLT but it is a bit pricier than $300.00- $400.00 range unless your lucky and find a good used one.

I have an M6 and it does have a beach mode. I was on a beach hunt competition early this fall and got a great taste of how my machine functioned. The hunt started out on dry sand, and then a absolute downpour. I had no problem finding coins, and only had to make a very minor adjustment. In fact I did quite well and this was against DFX's, XLT's and several other highend brands. It did as well as, and in some case better. But I also know my machine well and hunt based on tone.

The xlt is a Nice machine.. You may want to look into the Tesoro Line aswell..They put out some really nice units with Excellent warranties and service...

Also Make sure you Buy a Unit from someone you can trust and that will take the time to Help you to get to know your machine even after you Purchased it... Like discussing settings for your particular area..etc.. or not sure what certain features do etc..

Here is someone you can put your trust into..

Welcome to John's Detectors - Tesoro Detectors
