Default Need advice on Minelab Explorer XS

I can get a Minelab Explorer XS on Craigslist for $400. It's in ex. shape. My problem is that I am brand new to this hobby and don't want to end up buying something that is too difficult to use. I will mostly be doing coins and beach hunting, tot lots and parks etc. any help will be appreciated.

Don't know about the explorer SX or is that the SE. Anyway I'm sure someone will chime in or talk to the Sponsors. That is a Good way to think tho as Thats what I did when I started, Got a DFX and It is a Great Detector BUT It was TO MUCH for me to start with. $400.00 will get you a nice new detector that will fit your needs very well. Hope this helps a little. Whatever Ya get, Good Luck & HH !

Happy New Year.

Hey Flyer Dog.....welcome to the wonderful world of Metal Detecting. Being your just new.....I would suggest the ACE 250 - turn on and go machine plus half the cost of the Minelab XS and very easy to use.
As many on here can voucher on using this detector...it's a wonderful machine for a beginner ....

I've owned a couple different models of Minelab's and if your not familar with detecting they can be tricky.

Hope all goes well in your decisions and Happy Hunting!
John

I understand that it can take a bit of time to learn how to use it effectively. If you are technology friendly, you will grow into it. If you want to have a detector that is easy to use out of the box, this might not be the one for you.

If it's in excellent condition, sounds like a pretty good deal, if you decide to go with it, you could run it in the factory presets while you're learning.

I never had the XS but had the II and now an SE. I found alot of good stuff with the II running factory presets.
