In one of the recent threads, I read that Fisher's F2 metal detector is a great machine comparable to the Ace250. This did get me interested in learning more about the F2. Can anyone who has used both of these machines give me your take on the F2 in comparison to the Ace250? I do like how the F2 has the number display on it. Thanks!

So far I like the F-2!
I have been using the 4" coil in my yard with the sensitivity turned down. It's a really deep shooter also!

I just bought my wife one. She loves it. She did as well as I did with my Minelab, but that may not be saying too much about my detecting skills. I think it is a bargain for the money and we haven't even tried the second coil yet.

Been impressed with the F2 at trashy sites. The very quick reset recovery speed along with the 4 tone audio ID sure helps picking through the worst mess especially with the small coil. Deepest coins so far have been a penny at 5" in soil and dime at 7" in woodchips and feel there is more coin depth potential for the F2 due to the signal strength on the penny in soil.
As sarge1stone mentioned about keeping the sensivity down on the F2,that has also been my experience especially in iron infested and trashy areas where it was necessary to run at 35% to50% sens for best results. The numerical ID is ok on the more shallow targets wading through the trash deciding what to dig but the tones are very nice IMHO and like the crisp response on high conductive targets and picked a few shallow wheat pennies heavily masked by trash using the 4" coil. Haven't tried an ACE 250 but it sure has a bunch of satisfied users and some experienced ACE users didn't care for the F2.I hunt the nastiest, trashiest most disgusting conditioned areas of older parks, schools etc. attempting to unmask some keepers and the F2 is proving to me it's very capable and for cherrypicking clad it will make quick work Iding the hightones. Just some thoughts as both detectors will find stuff. HH Bill |

I highly enjoy the Ace250 and it is great for the beginner as well as for it's price. The F2 is a fraction cheaper and it comes with the 4" coil - definately in competition with with the Ace. From some of the reviews I have read, there are definately features I like about the F2 as well as other features I dislike. I think it is good to know there is a decent metal detector out there that is challenging the Ace. I sure would like to see other manufacturers come out with their own inexpensive, but highly effective, metal detectors. This would bring in a new generation of hobbiests.
