My wife is gonna get her first detector. She is looking at the Garrett ACE 250 pro. I am looking for help or input on this detector. I have only used my whites prizm 5 and cannot help her. So I wanted to post here to see if I could get some feedback.
Thanks |

I own the Ace250 and LOVE IT. It's a fav on this forum. A bunch of people use it and swear by it. It was my first detector and easy to get the hang of. I highly recommend it to your wife.

She likes it one second and then not sure the next second. I think she is concerned because some reviews are down on the display size, saying it's to small. I am gonna forward this post to her computer and she will see the replys in the morning when she gets up. Thanks so far.

Hello. I am a proud owner of an Ace250 and it is definately one excellent machine! It is inexpensive (in the metal detecting world) and is usually the first choice for a beginner to purchase. However, many professional metal detectorists who have been enjoying the hobby for quite a number of years find that the Ace250 is an excellent machine to have in their arsenal. Many consider the Ace to be an excellent backup machine while others lay aside their expensive machines for the simplicity (as well as functionality) of the Ace250. The optional 4.5" Sniper coil for the Ace provides the operator with a machine capable of finding numerous coins in the midst of high-trashed areas.
There are many features in the Ace250 that are normally found in the higher end machines. There is a fast learning curve of this machine - once you install the batteries, you will be on your way to finding great treasures! As for the display size, I find the size to be perfect. After a while of using the machine, I tend to not even look at the display. The human brain is the best discriminator when it comes to understanding what the machine is telling you. This will come after using the machine for a while. Good luck with your purchase!

I own one as well, and like FLD mentioned, you're better off to just ignore the screen. By getting the "Pro" you have the 9"X12" coil, which will effect screen readings as well.
Do some "air testing" and have her familiarize herself with tone as opposed to the screen to ID objects. Smitty |

I highly doubt that your wife will or should be concerned with the screen size. Sounds to me like someone was wanting to find a negative for this machine. After a while, she'll begin to learn the tones and all she'll need to do is glance at the screen, if even that. It's so easy to use that the screen is just a guide. Anyway, I think the screen is nice...easy to use and read.
You WON'T be disappointed.

What more could you ask for in a starter detector. The Yeller Feller detects well in all conditions and it hits deep targets that you would expect to find with a detector for under $300. You can turn around and sell it for most of what you paid for it and it will sell very quickly.
I certainly couldn't find a better deal when I got back into detecting a few years ago. I found all sort of great stuff and only traded up to the Excalibur 1000 because I wanted to go into the water more than 3' deep. Yes, the ACE250 will go into the water to but you can't get the control box wet or PPFFF! it's all over. If you drop the sensitivity to 2 you can hunt salt water, now that's amazing for an entry level price machine. I've still got my ACE250 and wouldn't part with it for anything, I really like this machine. By the same token, I LOVE my Excal! It has paid for itself 20 times over in the 2 years I've owned it. Get her the ACE 250, you won't be sorry and either will she. Cheers, BDA |
