Default Here we go again......advice on deciding which detector

OK, here goes....I am an other Nubee with a question about which detector to buy. I have decided on either a Ace 250 or a Silver Umax.

Now I understand that they are totally differant machines, but the silver seems to be a good basic machine, does one really need the Visual ID which the Ace 250 has. It seems from reading some of the posts here the Visual Id can be wrong as often as it is correct, so what is the point of having it, would not the beep and dig be the same as a see and dig .

Any help will be greatly appricated, thanks in advance for you replies.

You are correct Rich the ID makes no difference.......if the signal says dig me then your gonna dig no matter what.
There are a lot of folk on here that swear by the 250 but the Umax has to be good Tesoro are brilliant.
Talk to the sponsers on here (there is a section showing who they are) and then go with your gut instinct, after all you are the one that has to use it.
I use a Minelab XTerra 70 but in the past had a Tesoro Silver Sabre Plus (fabulousmachine)
Good Luck with your decision and Happy Hunting.

If your lost in the choice remember, the Umax has a lifetime warranty! Both are excellent machines.

Take a look at or Metal Detector Resource area and read some of the reviews from our members! We don't have any for the Umax but hopefully we will soon!

Hi Rich, I kinda look at it this way. Visual target Ids are just another aid to help you find what your looking for. Do you need it? of course not but. Good luck with your hunt for YOUR right detector!!

Lots of Ace 250 lovers on here, I have the White's Prizm III & love it, I'd prefer the visual vs the beep but in the end you dig it all, I just like to see what I'm digging for, good luck on deciding.

I have the Ace250 and love the visual prompts because it's nice to have some idea (even if it's not 100%, I use it as a guide) of how deep my target is. Also nice to see what I'm diggin'. Easy, easy, easy to use. Just my input, but I know that whatever you get, you'll love. Hey, a lifetime warranty sounds mighty fine to me. The Ace250 doesn't have that.

Hi, You Kinda Answered Your Own Question And You Answered Correctly I Might Add.. It Sounds Like You Want Someone To Make Up Your Mind For You. Well Maybe I Can Help If I Had To Pick Between The Two It Would Be The Garrett 250! The Garrett 250 Has Pin Point Mode The Tesoro Silver Umax Does Not. The 250 Uses Four AA Batteries The Umax Uses One Nine Volt Battery. I Like The Size Of The Coil On The Umax Vs The 250. Between The Two The 250 Is The Most Versatile. They Both Cost About The Same. These Are The Kind Of Comparisons That You Need To Make. You Never Stated What Type Of Hunting You Planned On Doing. This Is Another Thing You Need To Think Of When Trying To Decide On Which Machine Is Best Suited To Your Style Of Hunting. Go Read Reviews On Both Detectors Then Pick One. Metal Detectors Seem To Hold Their Resale Value Plus Your Not Stuck With Your Decision For Life.. Just Go For It And Happy Hunting.. Thanks JJ

Oooh. I didn't know that the Umax doesn't have a pinpoint feature. I would be lost without the pinpoint. In fact, I would pay extra just for the pinpointing. It sure does help, especially if you end up getting the Sniper coil for the Ace250. It's dead on!
