Default INSIDE house md'ing

I am new here & to md'ing. Been reading the post's trying to gleam some knowledge. I'm in PA & it's been cold & the grounds pretty much frozen.

Haven't has much time to try out my detector , found some "junk" in the back yard one day when the weather was good for the afternoon.

I have been told by neighbors , that the house we bought a few years ago has a gun , supposedly from the civil war era hidden somewhere inside.

No , the house isn't extremly old , maybe 100 yrs. I do know that it's been in the last person's family for about 3 generations.

My main question is , does anyone think I could have a chance to find it with my detector ? (trying to do something until spring)

I've searched hiding places I thought something might be hidden , but no luck....... thought maybe I could md it ?

thanks for any input & ideas.
btw , I have an Ace 150.

thanks
Jamie

Jamie, welcome to Treasure Quest. Not sure how to answer that question...Just look around good..Maybe get a pin pointer and check around...Might pick up nails, but you can try...If you have a dirt basement, check down there...Good luck and keep us posted....Buster...

Jwolf... Nothin wrong with a 150. Alot of Great finds are made wilt Lower priced Detectors. Congratulations on your Upcoming Blessing !! You have nothing to lose I would think By Trying tho with Nails, Pipes, Electric Lines and appliances, Computers and the Like you bound to get alot of false signals or Just many signals that may be from the above mentioned But If your killin Time then why not try. I would try to visualize where someone may hide it and work those areas first. If you have a basment and/or attic I would look there hard. Loose Floor boards, maybe a false compartment in a wall, windowsill, Door frames, under the sink bottoms and so on. look carefully at every square inch as sometimes hidden compartments can be almost unnoticable. Ya just never know.
Good Luck in your Hunt !

Hi and welcome to TQ!

I would say give it a try, you may want to get some electric wire, copper pipe and maybe a piece of thick wall steel pipe to see what it all sounds like. A gun should give a signal more like that of the steel pipe. I think around the appliances, duct work and drain pipes would be your most troublesome areas. Good luck and let us know how you make out!

Where in PA are you? I'm in Chester County.

TINMAN gave good advice. If you think there is a chance that the gun is hidden INSIDE the house. Step back and think where YOU would have hidden it. There are many, many hiding places in a typical modern house, but century-old house will have many more. Definitely don't let that duscourage you though, you're guaranteed to find intersting stuff regardless if you keep looking for the gun. Old coins, old newspapers, etc.

Good luck and keep us posted

cheers,
