IM working an area with lots of small change, its been the best education along with this site,
question I pinpoint my dig spot when the signal beeps back and forth, but the other day I got a lot of one way signals, for lack of a better description i could get a tone on one swing but not a tone on the back swing. I wouldnt dig it cause i had so much more i could dig with dual beeps... any clue what was going on |

I agree with the artist. It could be the way the object is laying in the ground. I hunt with a BH too and what I've learned is to trust your machine. After a period of digging everything, I've learn to pass over certain signals. If you haven't really learned how it responds to different targets, continue to dig everything until you get to the point that you know the differences in each beep. Let me add, that depending on where you hunt (trashy or not so trashy) sometimes it doesn't hurt to dig everything.

Does you machine have pinpoint mode and if so are you using it. Sounds like to me you are still in discrim mode if the signal is only there on one sweep and not the other. I don't know the bounty hunter.
Also, rusty iron will give you a false coin toin, and usually, in only one direction of the sweep. Try moving 90 degrees around the object and sweep it again, if the signal goes to iron the, most likely thats what it is, but not always. It could be a good target masked, or near a bad target. Best advice, dig everything, until you feel comfortable that when you walk away from a target, that you not leaving something good. Hope that helps.

I think I would dig what ever it is up and swing it again and see if something else is down there..Might be more than 1 target....Buster....

Yeah, I usually find that it's a coin on edge or multiple coins, sometimes they can be hard to pinpoint. Definitely put it in all metal mode to pinpoint and maybe raising your coil a little will help.

Hm. Normally when I get a one way tone, it's trash. Mostly foil. I do agree, though, that if you are in a new or different area than you normally hunt, dig it all because you just never know. Maybe the mineralization at the new spot causes targets to ring differently.

I believe what ER nurse has said is right about rust, and sweeping from diff directions. If the signal is solid from more than one direction dig it! if it's broken or chirps or nothing from diff angles likely junk.
I notice it often happens at the end of a sweep where a signal will occur then rechecking it nothing. I would say minerals cause this or hot rocks. Many variables in different soil!
