Default Coil Cover

I am wondering if a coil cover is worth getting for my M6. I have not used one since I received the machine. I am seeing some small scratches on the bottom of the coil, nothing big though.

Hey Bryan,

For the cost, it is cheap insurance for sure! Extra protection.....I'd rather ding up or wear out the coil cover than the coil itself any day. You don't really lose anything either by putting one on. I got covers for all my coils.

Thumbs up Worth it

Hey Bryan

I wouldn't leave home without one. Cover approx $20 tops, last long time, replaceable. Coil upwards of $100 depending. Cheap insurance.

Thanks
Leo

I have them and have used them for years...Sand and hard dirt will wear out your coil..It is cheap insurance and worth it...Buster...

Coil covers are a good thing. One thing to remember though, clean out in between. Take the cover off now and then and get the sand/dirt out of it. It can cause false signals or interference, Beale.

I always had the same thought. In the last 25 yrs of really just playing with detecting I had never used one. After getting a bit educated on this forum I decided to start using one when I ordered my new toy. I had heard in the past that it would cut down on depth not sure if that is true or not but all I do is hunt coins so I figured no big deal. Even though I only have a few hours out with my new machine the coil cover is scratched and I just think that for the few bucks the covers cost it is a good insurance policy. Besides they are easy enough to pop on and off.

Hawk, Beale, Buster,Leo, ochog and of course Anne , Thank you for the input. It looks like I will be calling JW at KCo this week. I better clean off the minute scratches, off the bottom of the coil while I am at it .

Hey Bryan, I guess it sounds like a coil cover is a great idea . I'm not sure what you mean by cleaning off the scratches but if your coil is working ok, the scratches are better left alone, just clean the coil with a non-abrasive cleaner rather than risk damage.
