Need info on finding rings (have an MXT)

So I was talking to a local detectorist that runs the detector part of a local prospecting club. He was telling me he has found allot of ring, many being gold. His best day was 7 rings!

He said (which I knew) that gold rings will show a VDI like pop tabs and sometimes nickels. I havent been digging all these signals, so its possible that I could have missed a ring or two. I have not found any jewelry except for a small silver earing.

For the people out there that are finding jewelry (especially rings), has it just been luck digging pop tabs? I meen, do you dig EVERYTHING all the time? I have pretty much learned what a pop tab or top sounds like with my MXT, but if the rings sound the same, then I guess I really need to dig everything. I went out today for a couple of hours and dig all of the pop tab signals and some foil signals. And that is exactly what I dug up. Spent lots of time doing it, and not allot of time finding better signals.

So, whats the middle ground on this subject? Or what do you do in this situation? Thanks in advance for the advice.
