Ok, I have a quick couple of questions. I am headed to the beaches in North Carolina this weekend. I have a minelab xterra 70 detector.
My first question is where should I spend most of my time on the beach? Down by the water or up near the dunes. I am not looking for anything particular. Some relics from ship wrecks would be great. My last question is, what coil should I use? I have the 10.5 inch High Freq coil or the coil that comes with the machine wich is a 7.5 freq. Thanks for the help. Cheers Kevin |

Someone posted a few weeks back about beach hunting..They said to walk 17 to 20 paces from the dunes toward the water line and that would be your start line for coins...I have not tried this yet, but I will..I agree with Beale and I would start at the blanket line were people sit and hang out...Happy Hunting...Buster..

Kevin, when beach hunting you want to hunt where the good targets are....One day the good stuff may be high and dry, than the same afternoon it'll be in the wet wash. The blanket line, just above the high tide line will be a good place to start but don't be afraid to wonder high and low too. After three of four passes from high to low beach you should be able to ID a general area where it'll be productive at that time. If that area dries up before you run out of gas start to search high to low again.
Buster I've heard the adage of 17-20 paces from the dune line before but never tried it, on some beaches it'll put you along way from the water and other beaches it'll put you in the water... generally it's not a bad place to start. Each beach is different and the same strip of sand will change everyday.
