Default Digging Everything, or Not?

TQers-
As we get more experienced, we are supposed to learn the machine, listen...no HEAR it speaking to us...
So I have a question.
While reading the manual for my BH QD II, it shows that gold will sound the same as bottle caps. So shouldn't I be digging everything?
I have recently began bypassing lower tones (bottle caps & pull tabs), but now I think I might be missing out.
(I am still using 'All Metal' mode. I'm still a little confused with the whole Disc stuff)

Please Treasure Questers, help a newbie out!
Thanks in advance.

Happy Hunting!

Hey Cash it is easy to dig the high numbers, tones, etc. That was what I was doing with my minelab. I was getting a bunch of clad and a few goodies, but little else.

With the Vaquero I have dug more pop tops than ever. I also have a nice 21K gold ring to show for it. I dunno it is hard to dig it all, but at the same time it is hard to ignore, Beale.

I have been wondering the same thing Cash....from reading all the other post it sounds as if most folks do dig everything.....If you don't dig the pulltab tones you may miss a nickle.....I have noticed that I get a lot of hits for pennies and it ends up being something made of lead....however I do believe if we will hang in there we will get the hang of it.

I've experimented with my wedding ring and other rings. If you notice, there is a distinct different length of the tone on rings vs bottle tops or pull tabs, same with nickles. Round objectsa such as rings and nickles, even thought it is a low tone, it is very sharp and short when you pass over it. Also does this when pinpointing. Pull tabs or pop tops drag the beep out just ever so slightly. Same with items that pick up in the coin range but are not coins. When a rusty nail sounds off as a coin, it drags the beep out or sounds sluggish. Does this make sence? Do this yourself and see if you can hear the difference. Make sure you use your headphones and listen very carefully. Hope this helps.

Today at the beach I got a beep & it was showing strictly pulltab, I figured it was a pulltab & decided to dig it anyway, at least get it off the beach, but it turned out to be a gold ring, more than likely gold plated as there is no mark on the inside so I'd say dig it all.

i've heard if you want to dig jewelry you should dig all the pulltab/nickel signals. i guess it shows, i don't dig those signals usually, and all i've found is a children's ring!! go figure!!

Cash;

It seems that you and I started md'ing at the same time. I dig it all. Reason being is experience level. I hope to never not want to dig a penny sound. I'd be too worried I might miss something much better. At the beach its a no brainer, diggin' is like taking candy from a Sailor...anyone can do it (Well I did retire from the Marines...) Anyway, on regular dirt, it is more time consuming and tiring. Again, I plan on digging 99% of hit I hear. Keep up the diggin'...

Cash It depends on the ground how hard it is..if i am relic hunting I dig everything..all tones almost..But coin hunting mostly dig the good tones..If I am on the Beach sand..eisy digging I DIG every hit..Gold will hit at pulltab or below..Your getting it done and gold will soon be there..To many rich folks and party goers down your way..Dont forget to hunt close to see walls and anywhere you think a party on the sand was..folks fight and ripp off jewlry my wife found a 14k diamond cut necklace on galviston texas beach..she picked the party spot right out also found a pocket nife and sterlin silver cuff links probabbly from a prom..
