I think that it is the amount of time it takes to generate another signal once you pass over one. Like if you are in a trashy area, with a low recovery speed, you are likely to go over a target and not hear one right next to it.

There is a recovery speed (of the metal detector) which is the ability for the machine to beep again. This is usually discussed in hunting trashy areas. Then, some of the TQ'ers use "recovery time" in the sense of how long it takes to dig and recover your target. Hope this helps.

I understand recovery time as:::::::
When you go over the Target how long it takes for the signal to reach you.
Sometimes with slow recovery it could be a second or two late and then you go over the spot you were at when you heard the beep and there is nothing there,so take a step back and slow down and you will find it.

How about another interpretation?

I see "Recovery Speed" as the time it takes your detector to recover back to a threshold tone after the tone/null of a target. Unless you're hunting in silent mode.

In my case, it's how long it takes me to stop being stiff and worn out from hunting all day
