Seems as though if your detector picks up gold rings...It would pick up gold nuggets.

Most detectors will pick up gold in an air test but... with the heavy mineral content of the soil associated with gold it makes sense to use a gold detector. These detectors run at a higher frequency than coin detectors to find the smaller nuggets. The ground balance is highly important some machines have auto GB like the tesoro lobo ST but most people prefer manual ground balance to keep the machine from "tracking in" the small targets and making them invisible. The Machines of choice here in Arizona are the Minelab PI machines, followed by (in no particular order) White's GMT, Fisher Gold Bug II, and Tesoro Lobo ST. I have heard of acouple of people using a tesoro vaquero with some success here in AZ. as well as in Alaska. It operates at the higher frequency required and has a great ground balance. In comparison The High dollar DFX will find gold rings all day long in a park but they are useless in the gold fields. Just my 2 cents.

If you're lookin specifically for nuggets, get a gold detector, if you're lookin for coins, get a coin machine, if ya can't decide.... get an MXT !!!!
