Default Silver&Clad

I've read a lot of posts and I'm diggin up alot of clad thats grey.Is it because all the silver is corroded off of it?Do solid silver '64 and earlier also turn grey like the clad? Kinda a rookie question but curious!

Gary, all the ones that I have pulled out have come out real shiny...That is what is so cool about silver...I like it a lot when I can get it...The older nickels and pennies come out dirty and you have to clean then some, but the silver is a site to behold.....Buster...

Red face silver

Today I was looking at three old silver dollars that I've aquired somewhere,Two Morgan and one peace.Dirty in the nooks and crannies. They cleaned up real nice with baking soda and a tooth brush.I hope its the right stuff to use.

I checked the past post for cleaning of coins and came up with that and a few other cleaning ways..just put the words...Cleaning of coins in the forum search box and hit search...I don't clean mine too much...I had found a 1902 nickel and was trying to clean it some...came out OK, but it is still worn...Buster...

Gary, just another school of thought. The absolute best way to clean silver, especially valuable silver, is DON'T. The gray is called pantenia (sp)?and is a sign the age. Look at the value of old coins and you'll never see “in like new condition”. Besides even baking soda causes small scratches that'll decrease the value some.
