I'd say you have a good detector in the Infinium, especially if you have the new coil/cable set ups. A really stable machine and one of the few PI's with any discrimination ability (lowhigh and highlow). The Excal is my personal favorite and it does have the iron masking but it's a VLF machine so it is a bit like comparing apples and oranges. Each machine has it's strengths and weaknesses but they are both very good machines. The learning curve on the Excal is easier at first but then it gets tricky to max out performance so you can compete with the PI machines.
I personally plan to add a PI unit to my surf hunting arsenal but I'm waiting on the new Whites TDI to come out as a submersible. Having a VLF and a PI machine for the surf is a good idea in my book. I almost bought a gently used Infinium when a mate of mine left the island and was selling his but decided against it because I found the tones sounded like nails on a blackboard (purely personal bias) but the machine itself is a winner.
You could always buy an Excal2 and compare the two units before deciding to keep one or the other OR keep them both.
Cheers,
BDA
