The ACE 250 is incredibly light and packs the punch of detectors weighing and costing twice as much. My main detector is an Excal 1000 so the ACE 250 seems so light by comparision that I worry I'll accidentally break it sometimes but it's a rugged little guy and I've had no troubles with it in more than 2 years of swinging it.
Hip mounting is the other option but you have to be careful that your detector doesn't succumb to cable strain. Cheers,

My arm was wore out after about 10 minutes and I adjust the arm cup and length this seemed to solve the problem (I use a White's MXT) You might look for a hip mount if possible this would move the weight away from her arm. I am new to detecting but as an engineer I can tell you less weight at a longer length is easier to handle. Thing about a lever the longer the better. Ice

I use a older Tesoro Golden Sabre 2. It's pretty light, but when I am going to swing it for 4-5 hours I can hip mount the conrtol box to my belt. This means I am only swinging the pole, and coiland the two weigh around two lbs. Look into something like that if you want.
Most newer models are super light, but as others have stated some are lighter than others.
