Ace 250 vs. White's MXT

I have been digging for almost 30 years, and I've used most every brand out there. Always kinda favored White's. I have read so many good posts about the Ace 250, that I wonder how that would stack up against the White's MXT that I recently bought new? Why is the Ace so "inexpensive" if it is so well-loved? Or, why is the White's so much more "pricey"? I have a few physical issues that limit my digging in the winter, and have only used the Whites on real good days. I use a Tesoro on "not-so-good" days. Anyway, for depth and target I.D, will the Ace "hang" with the MXT? I know it's lighter....

TN...Not too sure if they compare. I believe the MXT costs at least 3 times more than an ace-250. No don't get me wrong, I'm sure each has its own good points. I have found plenty with my ace-250, everything except real old coins...I don't blame it for that, I have to find em' first. try to PM Treasurefiend, (I've been meaning to, its on one of his video blogs) I think he did a side by side comparison with a friends machine and it went a bit deeper that the ace-250. As for me, the ace-250 will do as I'm pretty comfortable with it...

i have to say that a machine costing 700 dollars is going to be better than one costing 200. granted i have never used either machine, but i know the mxt is a deep machine and is very popular among coinshooters and relic hunters. the 250 is great for the price and very reliable. i have a white's and i say that you can't go wrong with their customer service and maintenance.

I have an Ace and love it! Ive never used a Whites so i dont know how they compare. I asked the same question and some people with both machines said they Ace did better than the Whites on small gold pieces but i dont know for sure. For $200 you cant go wrong! The Ace doesn't weigh much and you can swing it all day and thats why i bought mine.

Certainly no electronics expert but the MXT will handle soils conditions the ACE 250 can't.The MXT didn't get a reputation as an outstanding detector by matching the Ace 250 or any other lower priced detector. It's all about hunting diverse conditions through ground balance exclusion,tracking and outstanding coil selections etc. and it costs more money to build higher performance units. Performance is only noticed by those who need more HH Bill

The MXT has one of the most advanced (some would say THE most advanced) ground tracking system out there. The ACE has a factory preset ground balance (ie. it doesn't balance against the ground matrix).

The MXT is very hot on small gold jewelry. More than the more expensive DFX.

There is a wealth of coil choices that it shares with the DFX and its little cousin, the M6, making it more versatile.

The MXT has three programmed modes: Coin & Jewelry, Relic and Prospecting mode.

How hot is the MXT on gold? Try picking up this little fragment of very fine 14K gold chain with your machine.
