Default Do i have to share what i find ?

Do I have to share what I find? If i go to a state park like a civil war place and find a big find or some time important. do I have to stare it with the state.
If I go to someone land and find gold coins, should I affer to share? I not tring to be greedy but I don't know the protocal for this.

you dont need to do anything you dont want to. its just a nice jesture and a thanks you for the permission to hunt the land. without the permission you would not have those gold coins in the first place. as for the state land and sharing with the state, i dont. but as for the pirivate land yes i always share. but thats just me.

Little story: A guy I detected with a few times asked his friend to allow him to hunt his property. The friend said sure, but followed the guy all the way through. One of his finds was an old half dime in great condition. When the guy popped that out of the ground, he could see that it bothered his friend. As a gesture, he reached into his wallet and pulled out a 20 and handed it to his friend. This helped smooth things over.

Moral: While it is my expierence that most people have very little interest in what you find on their property (most are convinced there is little of value in their yard) it is a nice gesture to offer a percentage of the finds.

I don't know what the laws are where you live, but be very careful to get permission (preferably written) on state owned lands.
It is often illegal to remove anything from them without permission. Also, any battlefields or historical sites on state or federal land are off limits. They have some hefty fines for hunting those locations and will probably confiscate your detector.
Some allow metal detecting, but only at specific "new" sites like swim beaches. And, usually only with the permission of the park management.

As for sharing with a private property owner -- that is entirely up to them.
Good luck with your hunting!

Cool about the only thing you will get..

..is a headache. if someone is so thin skinned to be angry over anothers find then they need to grow up. I have taken people to sites and they found stuff when i did not,no big deal as my time will come and i was glad they did well. you should donate something to a state battlefield park if they let you detect though as that is a a rare event.
