Default Coil sealant instead of a cover?

I have been thinking about sealing my coil with epoxy or silicone instead of using a coil cover. Seems like a good idea. Would appreciate advice on it before I acually do it. Can it do any harm or hinder the performance any?

Default Sealing Coil

If it is a newer detector it may effect the warranty...Other than that it sounds like a pretty good idea...I don't think it would harm the coil or make a difference in it's performance.....PAPPY

I think most of the major manufacturers coils are very well made and can withstand many hrs of careful swinging and ground scrubbing before it may wear through but there is that unforseen object that may cause major damage. I always use coil covers on my woods and open field coils and sealed some with silicone sealer around the edges. Some folks use coil covers because they buy and sell detectors like Wall Street "day traders" and like to sell as new. To each their own is this area. HH Bill

I'm with boobieinPa on this one. I would stick with the coil cover. If it's a matter of them falling off, put a layer of electrical tape around the outside of the coil and snap the coil cover on.

Default Coil Cover-Use Silicone??

I use a coil cover myself, I put clear silicone around the outside and espcially around where the wire goes in the coil that makes it water repellent to some extinct and helps the detector
not to bring up no false signals when it dew out ing the morning.

Can you buy coil covers with an open center or see thru center? I need the center open for pinpointing...would be lost if I couldn't see thru the center of the coil. Thanks to all for replying.

Cool

From the detectors I deal with, the coil covers match the coil. If you have an open center coil, you get a cover with an open center, if it is a spoked coil you get a spoked cover, and if it is a solid coil you get a solid cover. What kind of machine do you have?
