Default MineLab Muskateer Advantage

Does anyone here use this machine?..The discriminate adjustment all the way up still finds nails and foil and rusty iron with a strong signal...basicly there is no discrimination at all...a nickle and a nail sound the same...never know what im digging for....can anyone give me a bit of advice?....Im using a 10" coil but i also have a 8" stock coil, should I switch back to the 8"?
Kellyco told me this was a good machine for the high iron content in our soil but I am constantly trying to adjust out the noise with the ground adjust and sensitivity controls
Alot of times when i pinpoint a strong signal i dig the pinpoint area and find nothing, so i pinpoint again and the signal has moved 6 inches....its very frustrating for both me and my girlfriend who i bought the same machine for when i bought mine
Maybe i bought the wrong machines but I took Kellycos advice because of the ground mineralization in my part of the country (Upstate South Carolina) any help would be appreciated

I don't use that machine , but I believe that Gregory uses a minelab. If he does I am sure he will be able to help you or guide you as to who to talk to. I hope this helps.

Hi rotty,

I have been using a Musky for about 1 1/2 yrs. now and it's one of the best nonmetered detectors on the market in my opinion. The Advantage is a single tone detector and all targets sound the same and as far as discrimination the Musky has a fantastic discrimination circuit and very quick recovery speed. If you using a 10" coil in a trashy area that could be part of your problem , i only use the 10" coil at relatively clean sites and the 8" at most sites. When you say there is no discrimination even at the highest setting that doesn't sound right to me.When i'm hunting these are my standard settings,

1. Sensitivity at about 3 o'clock and make sure you GB to whatever Sensitivity setting you use and use neutral GB or slightly positive
2. GroundBalance is about 2:30 in my area
3. Toggle switch to Ground adjust enable
4.Toggle switch to discriminate mode
5. Discrimination set at 2:30 for nickels and above and if very trashy you may have to go higher. The one thing about the Advantage is that rusty bottlecaps sound off like quarters and it's due to the DD Coil in relation to the disc circuit and over time you'll learn to notice the slight blip that gives it away sometimes.

If your pinpoint is that far off your probably hitting on hotrocks , big iron and other large metal items can cause off centered pinpoint, but coins, rings, and most relics will not cause erratic pinpoints and they pass quickly and always in the same spot and will disappear at about 2 to 10" above ground level depending on depth.Big iron will transmit a signal much higher than a standard coin size target when you raise the coil.
You may have bought the wrong detector but make sure you know how to operate your detector correctly before making that determination. If you have any questions i'll be glad to help if i can and perhaps others may be using the Musky. HH Bill

Good Luck rotty,

Just remember my ground balance and sensitivity settings are for my area and yours may be different but all other settings should be ok. HH Bill
