Default I'm curious at what depth have most found their older coins ?

my oldest found coin is a King George copper circa 1730 something found at about 4". Almost all my silver coins circa 1892 and up have been found 7" or less. My deepest coins were older wheats at 9" found on a soccer field that had 2" of topsoil added to level the field. I'm really not looking for a King of the Hill answer just facts and not interested in what detector found what at this time. This is more a geographic question than a which is deeper question. Just curious. HH Bill

Default How deep ?

I found an 1836 Coronet 1 cent coin at about 7" with my Spectrum XLT ! I beleive this was my deepest coin I have ever found and this was found in loose soil. Most OLD coins I have found in hard packed soil have been around 2" to 5" . HAPPY HUNTNG !!! KENNETH HUDDLESTON

Hi, the deepest coins I've found have been 4-6". I am in very loamy, gravel and topsoil mix in my area. I may have deeper targets, but can't find em!!!!

Most of my coins have been at or near the 4-6" range. Ground is mostly loamy to sand.

Deepest I found was at 12 inches with an iffy signal was a buffalo, not a lot of ground mineralization around area it was found and was with a standard coil.

Found a pocket drop at about the same 10 to 12 inches. signals were not real clear but was at 10 to 12 inches again with the standard coil and was a merc and several wheats

Default Deepest Depth

Deepest coin depth I have found around here is about 8 inches. This is black gumbo clay. May be some deeper but if there are, I haven't found them yet. Over in the neighboring county it is sandy loam and I have found a couple of halves and buffalo all at about 14" max but all the clad has been close to the top at about 2-4". Still looking for that ever elusive Merc..

Do not know if it makes a difference but I am using a standard 8" coil.

Default Large Cent

The deepest coin I have dug was an early and very corroded, Large Cent at about 8-9 inches and in very rich, dark Shenandoah Valley soil. A half inch below that was the clay line. Had it been in the clay I probably would not have gotten it!
