Default ACE 250 ..Sensitivity...

what exactly does the Sensitivity setting do?
I normally keep mine at 6, unless I am trying to get more info on a target.

What should one set it at around playground Equip.? I notice it will "ping"anytime I swing under the lower parts of slides or around bleacher uprights..... What tricks am I missing?

Thx ...Don

Generally it it used to make the detector more sensative to objects. With no ground interference it can be set high. If there are iron minerals present ( and where aren't they present? ) and you turn the control up too high you will begin to pick up the ground and this is where the chattering comes in on some detectors. The idea is to find the threshold of where this takes place and keep the control set just below it.

The whole key to using sensitivity on any detector is get the best compromise between depth and operational stability. Realize as you increase sensitivity you increase the detection field, up, down and sideways. One way to tell if your sensitivity is too high is to raise the coil to about waist level and if unstable with a jumpy screen and unwarranted beeps try reducing sensitivity just enough to attain stabilty, now lower the coil to the ground and make sure you find a spot with no metal and adjust if necessary to attain stability, in my opinion a little chatter at ground level isn't too bad as long as your only getting an occassional false signal.
You may have to lower sensitivity much more under bleachers or around large metal objects ,and even better get yourself a small coil for those type conditions. I had a GTP 1350 and sometimes had to run sensitivity at 2 or 3 and personally believe it's partially due to the large receiver inner coil but just an opinion. Good Luck HH Bill
