Default Lots of Wierd metal "ore" found

Greetings, I am new to this site. I have a whites Classic ID and I keep finding these pieces of metal in my backyard, they look like some type of ore.

My detector labels them as $25 cent or $50 cent silver. They are very shiny when cleaned up or scratched with a knife. I found a bunch at my old house (near a creek bed) but I bought the house from an executive that worked at the local steel mill (AK steel) so I figured they might be from there. But, now at my new house (about 10 miles away) I found some very similar pieces.

Is it normal to find stuff like this?

I looked at some "ore" web sites with pictures and I haven't found anything that looks like it.

Thanks,
FreeEnterprise

I took them to a geologist from the local university (Miami in Oxford). He told me that they were man made, but he wasn't sure what they were. So he took a sample of them to run some tests on. Something about breaking atoms off of the nucleous to show what they are??

So, in a couple of weeks he will let me know.

I am also confused by the bullet I found, I've never seen one like that. Any ideas?

Default Strange metal

Free Enterprise: I have also found pieces just like the ones in your picture. I suspect them to be soldering scraps that drip off onto the ground then solidify.

I have found more of it as well. I found two of these about a mile from my house.

The weird thing about them is that they ring up on the detector as silver. I used gold acid on them and even 24K gold acid did nothing to them.

The geologist I showed them to said they were man made, but he was unclear as to what they are.

I should hear from him soon as to what they are.

I'll just keep digging them up and putting them in the drawer with the other pieces...

The weird pattern on some of them was it "growing". Pretty weird if you ask me.

I'll put the torch to a piece and see what it looks like.

Default Slag

HI IT LOOKS LIKE YOU HAVE COMMON MILL SLAG, PEOPLE USED IT TO MAKE DRIVEWAYS, AND SMALL MILLS LOOKED FOR ANY GOOD LOCATION TO DUMP IT. IT READS SILVER OR .25 CENTS BECAUSE IT PROBABELY CONTAINS NICKEL AND MANY OTHER METALS ZINC,STAINLESS,ETC. JUST MY GUESS KEEP ON DIGGING THE BEST SPOT IS UNDER YOUR FEET!
