Old HJ and the family are headed out for our yearly visit to the Jersey shore, my first one as a detecting hobbyist. Junior and I have polished our machines, done alot of discussing bought our feed scoops and drilled our holes.
My question is can I expect different dynamics from the ocean sand than I experience at home? Will I penetrate deeper, or will the salt complicate things? Maybe there is no difference at all. I need any advice regarding any aspect of beach hunting that I can get before the weekend. (Maybe I should have gone back to the newbee board... )Thanks all, HJ |

Wet salt sand ALWAYS complicates things. The salt minerals are pretty good at masking targets. What detectors are you going to use?

Since you'll mostly be limited to the dry sand just go at it. Try it in the wet and see what happens. You'll be digging more junk up in the dry stuff but if you have a good sand scoop that shouldn't be too much of a problem. Try to stay close as you can to the wet sand.

Any Pulse Induction machines will work it fine! Also some machines have a salt water mode such as the Fisher CZ series and the Treasure Baron. Also some of the older Daytona's ground tune to the salt very well!!! Hope this helps......

i got an ace 250 if you hit wet sand the detector will go off like there is something there i have to to the sensitivity way down or stay off the ground an inch or two try burying a couple of coins in the wet sand at different depths to see how far down it will go.

White's MXT is another that has a Salt position on the Ground Balance switch, and all reports indicate that wet sand improves the depth at which you can find things.
