Most caches are found to be buried less then 2 feet deep! Your 10" coil should work just fine for that depth. If you knew you had a cache that was 5 foot deep you'd want the largest coil you could get.
Think back? How many times have you been out checking a yard and got a deep sound but didn't take the effert to check it out? To at least use a probe to get a feel for what might there? Some fellows have walked by a stash while coin shooting thinking the hit was only trash! Probe the larger deeper sounds and if it feel right get a shovel.
Ofcourse your coil will have to be over a cache to find one right, So do your research and search out where one might be found. GOOD LUCK.

Default 12 Inch Coil???

Cache Hunters use the largest coil available for their machine and hunt in the all-metal mode. Be sure to investigate any deep sounding wide signals. The reason for using the all-metal mode is that some containers will be so rusted out that the discrimination circuit will reject it! Also if not sure about a signal, at least probe it with a long probe to see what it "feels" like. Of course if in doubt, always dig! GOOD LUCK.......

Default 12 Inch Coil???

BIG JOHN is right, if in doubt pull out the Nautilus with the biggest coil available. If the Nautilus won't find it you are obviously over the wrong spot!..............JOE

Default coil

The stock 10 should work fine. The wot on the sov will easily hit a quart mason jar lid by itself at 18 inches. Cache hunting is a tough one and I have found two in my 35 years of teckin.

I have to agree with bigjohn & Joe(TX).
Your 10" coil should work good enough. Just go to the all metal mode and try that.
Of course that is just my humble opinion.
