If you are talking nugget hunting then the nugget will have to be substantial size. Those detectors run around 5 to 7 kHz. The better nugget hunter have a frez 14 kHz and above for improved sensitivity. Also some of them are programed to eliminate those VDI's close to 0 when ground balancing... thats where the gold is.

Dewcon is correct about nugget size. If it's gold jewelry then you're OK. Remember 14K gold is only half gold. A nugget is 24K and much harder for a detector to see at VLF frequencies. You may find a larger nugget but even then it would be pretty lucky in my opinion. The two detector yo mentioned are not meant to find gold nuggets. If you want to prospect then the best way to go is the Higher frequency (48 khz + ) gold detectors.

Gold jewelry can fall in many places because the gold is mixed with an alloy to make it hard. 24K gold is too soft for jewelry! Gold rings can fall anywhere from nickels to screwcaps. Most hunters will skip the pulltabs and only dig the nickels, screwcaps and coins readings only! But at the beach because the sand is easy to dig I would set the machine to accept nickels and then dig all targets. GOOD LUCK JOE
