When the batteries get low a indicator will come on an tell you. I use rechargables in my ACE 250 and they work really well. I can hunt all day on a charge. Also I usually charge them after every outing so they are ready to go when I am.
Good luck with the 150.

Default Indicator

TIGER, The 150 has a battery indicator on the face of the control box to let you know when the batteries are weak.

thanks guys i knew it had a battery indicator on the display, i guess what i was asking since it doesnt show battery level is there any chance that before the batteries acually show low that the affectiveness of the MD could decrease. The main reason i was asking is that i was using it today and it was working great then it would pick up a signal then i couldnt get the signal again, then it seemed i could turn it off and then it would pick up again. It was real spuradick. I havent got the 250 out of the box yet but im sure i will tomorrow to try it out, but im about to give the 150 to my 10 yr old son this friday just wanted to run it through some tests. Sorry for my spelling Remeber I am from Alabama

When I received my Ace 250 many weeks back, the batteries that were included were already IN the metal detector when it was boxed up. Therefore, when I opened the box, the batteries were already dead!

If you get a signal and are not able to get it again... try to scan the area from a different side/angle. I found this helps me at times with the Ace 250. I hope this helps.

Why not change the batteries to be on the safe side. Even if the batteries are good you will have a back up set. If they are bad then you will be all set.

not sure i should start another thread but i have tested my 150 & 250 and im not really impressed so far ive air tested, dug holes and tested that way. signals are all over the place, i place a quarter on the ground bang it read 25cents at 4" deep which was correct (coil was about 4" off ground) then i dropped in the hole about 4 to 5" deep and then NOTHING didnt even read it. So with the ace 250 i dont see how i can ever find a quarter past 2" maybe shallower. Maybe it will just take practice but im not to sure. When i do get a good coin singnal in a swing, which is not often, i usally will never get it back. It is just shocking me because i researched entry level detectors and the postive feed back is about 90% maybe even higher. Sorry for the long post but i just got in from testing it and well I'm I have MDed with a BH fast tracker and i have better luck with it, and hitting my target is usally right on, with the 250 the target keeps moving. Well going to watch the video again and call the dealer some time this weak.

Default Ace

TIGER, You are evidently doing something wrong...Don't know quite what it is yet but I have located quarters as deep as 8" with my 250.

What settings are you using? How high do you have you sensitivity? What mode are you searching in? Do you have anything discrim out?

You should never search with your coil any higher than 1" off the ground.

Something is definitly wrong !!! You can't air test with a coin lying on the ground.

There may be something in the ground causing interference with your detector causing false readings.

Don't think you have you settings right yet my friend. You may have weak batteries also...Need to change them....I'm sure some of our Sponsors can help you with the problem...

Pappy, ok i didnt know you couldnt air test on ground, ive changed the sensitivity some back and forth but usally im searching at about half and in coin mode. My search coil is usally 1" or lower. As far as ground ive tried it in two different sites, oh yea i havent notched anything out yet.
Ill try it again tomorrow with new batteries and do a air test the way the dvd says, and try some different things. Maybe after using the BH with just two knobs, the 250 is a bit more sensitive than the BH. Also I'll try to go to a few sites I've been to with the BH and know the ground, I know there isnt alot of trash.
Maybe with all the ID and depth stuff im just expecting way to much.
Thanks Pappy for helping me I'm trying to figure these out to a certain point before this weekend so i can help my son this weekend when he gets his on his birthday.
