Default Detecting modes, Relic, Coin&Jewerly, etc..

I been reading manuals for some high end machines and trying to understand the features and functions. My question is on these types
of machines with preset programs or custom, Can you miss something by being in a certain mode?

Say your interested in relic hunting and your in relic mode but you come across a coin or jewerly under the coil what happens? and vise versa.

Is there some indication of a different object then you switch modes to see if you can get a better ID? or is it discrim out all together?

Im sure its clear with the machine in your hands but not having one yet Im just wondering how it works.

The preset programs are basically setup to allow a detector to be used right out the box by a user not familiar with many of the tuning options.

The discrimination, sensitivity settings, and whatever else the factory engineers feel is capable of working in most areas of the country with as little fuss as possible are designed into each preset program.

Yes you can miss many objects in certain programs like "coin only" as much of the foil and gold zones are discriminated out causing a lot of target masking which seems at least for me to carry over throughout much of target zones especially with a large coil in a high trash or areas with a lot of different type metals. Some folks use "Coin" programs for quick cherry pickin surface coins.

Coin and jewelry programs are better than coin only but Relic programs really open up the discrimination patterns and allow the detector to respond to most targets and much better for seroius hunting. Some detectors have options like Tone ID, Mixed mode audio, and single tone fequency adjustments so you pick the best audio mode and some have all metal ID which is a good way to crosscheck the discriminated ID.

It can seem complicated at first but also Fun to learn and just when we think we got it there's some headscratchin ,frustrating site that takes us back to Square One. Gotta luv it. HH Bill

I hunt in relic mode most of the time . Because I don,t miss any thing cause you never know where ya might find relics even when hunting coins. I have a xlt and the vid numbers tell me if it is worth digging or not.But aluminum always gives a good signal. but you can discriminate it if ya want.Coin and jewelry mode I mostly use around houses. But when i search in coin I usually go over again in relic mode not all the time tho.But in relic ya wont miss nothing.
