Default First Time Out – "To Be or Not To Be- Junk?"

Today it was sunny (this is good for Michigan in the winter) and a warm 29 degrees.

I knew the ground was frozen solid but I thought I would get out and just see what the GTAx would do.

I purchased a metal detecting permit to hunt at Hines Park in Michigan. If you go for a bike ride on Hines it goes for, maybe, 40 miles?

Here is a map if you are interested.

I went out and my detector was going off with 50 cent and dollar pieces. All about 8 inches underground. Since I did not have an ice pick I just tried to learn to use the Pin-Point Mode. This is really a nice feature. I actually found 1 cent (wow wee) on the grass using this feature.

Okay, so when my detector has that nice Garrett "cha-ching" sound like I won a Vegas jackpot how do I know it is the real deal and not just junk? Just dig and learn?

If it was summer time I would have dug up half of the common ground I was searching today with all the "good tones" going off.

I wait to hear from you pros out there.

Thank you,
Patrick

Hi Patrick, I am glad you were able to get out and use the Garrett. I would dig everything for awhile until you get the sounds memorized for various objects. Pinpointing is also helpful to know and understand. Also check your targets from different angles to see if the signal remains solid. Ok Patrick good to run into you again and happy hunting to you and of course God's Blessings upon you.

Thanks Guys. That pinpointing feature is really cool. I bet it draws a lot of power from the batteries.
