Default Trees...Can you hear Their Story?

From the moment you first start using your md the way you see the world changes. What once was an old broken down house and a "eye sore" suddenly becomes a gold mine but did you ever think that the trees had a tale to tale? Sure everyone wants to search around the huge tree in a park or yard. Why? Because we all know that people sat, played and probably eat under them and "They had to lose stuff" but there's something that we could be missing. I have read about old oak trees being thousands of years old and you can see them on the internet. These things are huge! Where I live in Middle TN and the surrounding counties you can see the hill sides covered with them but they are not that big. What happened? They have been cut. all of them and not only once but several times. Could they have been killed by some disease or high winds or storms? maybe, but no stumps or old large logs. So if we conclude that they have been cut then that means that a lot of people have worked many years in those woods and in older times they worked with hand saws, mules and wagons daylight to dark so you know they had to loose coins, jewelry etc. I started hunting in the woods this year around the last of feb and into mar. before the vegitation or brush started to bloom out and also on days when it was in the 40 degree range..Too many snakes in warm weather. but I did have some good finds. a 1910 wheatie, miniball, and a old silver plated dinner knife. and I ran my CZ70 maxed out and didn't hear much of a peep out of it with no notching but i always hunt without notching anything. You will find the usual shell cases that hunters left on the ground but you know that theres a lot good finds still out there. Quiet.. I can hear them now. HH

Good tip....If you can find some old pictures of the area you are hunting you may be able to target the areas that show clear cutting in the old pictures........
