Default Old Time Baptismal sites

Here's something to think about:

Get to reading them local history books of your area and find them old time baptismal spots. Most churches back then did their baptising in the nearest creek. I remember back in the 1970's when I was just a kid it was common to be riding around and seeing people being baptised. I remember one winter when both of my Grandparents and my two uncles were dunked not once but three times (father, son & the holy ghost)

I bet one can find coins and jewelry in and around some of these old time spots. I already found and read of one in my area but need to scout it out some.

So read up on your local history and you might be surprised what's waiting for you.

Amen,

Greg

I was first baptised in Lakeside, OR, about 2 or three hours from me. But I remember seeing a sign around siletz, about 1/2 from me where they did a few. I will have to look for it this summer,

great idea, greg, thanks for the thought

blessings,

Default Don't forget about the Church Socials as well

Don't forget about the Church Socials as well. Especially if there was a picnic and camping. Lots of folks getting together usually generates lots of trash and if you can find the garbage heap from an old Church Social, you could possibly find old bottles and all.

Read the local genealogy forums and they mention all kinds of family reunions and weddings and such and someone has bound to have lost something.

I posted this link a long time ago but for the newer members who never got a chance to read it, you got to check it out.. It is a type of research I like especially when I see the old pics of the town and stores and all.. It gives me a rough layout on how things were and gives a good idea where to start hunting at.

USGenWeb Archives - census wills deeds genealogy

Remember, there are thousands of these sites out there.. This is one I use on a regular basis.. Another good one is :

Cyndi's List of Genealogy Sites on the Internet

Good luck to you all and I hope to see postings of your finds real soon.

James
