Default Must Stop And Smell The Flowers

Just a little ole' tip from PAPPY...When you are riding down the road, going to work or whatever...Look into the woods or have someone look for you and see if you see any Daffodils growing off in the woods. If you do you can bet that there used to be an old homesite right near where the Daffodis are growing. Years ago that is about the only type flowers that the OLE' TIMERS used to grow in great numbers. If you see a whole bunch growing together...YOU CAN BET it's 99.99% sure that an old homesite used to be there. Should be blooming from March to around the first of May. REALLY GREAT CHANCE TO FIND THOSE OLD HOMESTEADS....PAPPY

I've found an old cellar hole that is surrounded with flowers. Not a single daffadil. Bee balm, violets, and lilacs are what I find most. I think that the area and type of flower might vary slightly. Yellow daffadils do seem to be the most common. I have seen them yellow daffidils before but I have no idea where. The idea of using flowers is great. I think that when settelers first moved here they grabbed the plants of their home land. Nothing like feeling like your home when your miles away. If you know of an area that has more then one cellar hole, look at the plants that's around the know cellar hole(s) If its daffadils then look for daffadils if its lilacs look for more lilacs or follow the scent on a slight breeze through the forest. You may find cellar holes that you never knew of. Family and neighbors passed on flowers and plants to each other. I'm still trying to remember where I saw them yellow daffadils before. I never thought about such things before buying my metal detector. Its a real good tip Pappy and maybe we can have a photo contest for cellar hole flower pics. lol Hey you never know. Jason

Pappy, this is so true. I don't know how many times i have seen bunches of daffodils, sometimes you can tell they were going along a walkway and sometimes the old steps will still be there with bunches on either side. They are so beautiful this time of year. It must have been a welcomed site in the old days, knowing that better weather was on the way. I know it is a welcomed site for me now as well.
