Default Opinion on a target garden idea.

I have made several target gardens before, and unless you bury a whole ton of things at different depths, you can't really see what your detector is reading. I was wondering if I was to take a piece of PVC pipe about a foot and a half long with a plug in the bottom, and then you could place your target at what ever depth you want, and be able to retrieve it with less hassle and change the depth to what ever you want. By drilling a hole in the side of the pipe, you could have a "pulling" hole to take the pipe out of the ground to change target depths. This would allow you to place different targets in the pipe, and still make your checks. Also, this would allow you to use different types of soil for the conditions you will be hunting in ie.sand, clay, loamy soil, or gravel.Good idea, bad idea? What ya think? Or is someone already doing this same thing? The only drawback I see to this is, that the target will never develope a halo from being in the ground very long.

You could give it a try , and will without a doubt come to some conclusions about your detector, (for new coins in disturbed soil),, but I have yet to hunt a sight that wasnt littered with all kinds of trash and years of accumulated pulltabs and bottle caps,, it sometimes takes me a few days to clear the top before I can expect any accuracy on targets that are 5 or more inched deep what does this all mean,, there is really no real substitute for being in the field using your detector trying custom programs and such to find the good stuff,,

I think your results would be similar to air testing your detector !! its easy to make up testing pallets and a lot less work. all you need is some paint stiring sticks and some coins to glue to them !!

Default i throw clad in my wife's flower bed...

then till the spot up. It spreads them out nice and at different depths. I have to be very careful in my recovery in the summer months. LOL. Good site for fall/winter testing.
