Default Making good finds at trash infested wooded sites

With winter coming on and snow on the ground and more to come on friday i guess i have too much time on my hands so i'm posting this for anyone who may want to try it. I love woods hunting, especially on the fringes of old heavily used public parks but i traverse the entire area searching for whatever beeps above nickel and if slow i 'll go to foil. I have found so many areas with high concentrations of decomposing iron and modern trash that are almost impossible to find anything by sweeping a large coil with high gain or sensitivity settings and a few yrs ago i started using small coils ,lower sensitivity settings, zero disc, and go slow methods and dig up everything that beeps to remove the heavy trash and sometimes fillup a few 5 gallon buckets with trash. You can't do this in turf areas due to all the damage you cause but in the woods just fill in the holes and nobody will notice.I have some nice finds doing this and works up a sweat on cold days. There's a lot of hidden treasure mixed in that trash and most often in the woods it's shallow. I use a lesche hand mattock, old pair of nipping shears, and folding saw to cut through roots. It takes patience and persistance but can be very rewarding. As long as the snow isn't too deep and temps are above 30 i'm gone huntin. Just a thought. HH Bill

That's a good idea. I think I'll give it a try.

Sounds great! Get that trash out of the way and find the good stuff underneath! Hope you are able to get out and do some digging!
