Default What do you use for a digging tool??

I am looking for help in selecting a digging tool. I have permission to hunt a college campus as long as I don't disturb too much grass.

Thanks for any help.

You may want to try a coin popping technique for this. Use an 8'' screwdriver to probe for the object (pinpointing skill required for this), then move the screwdriver slightly in a circle to create a small hole you can pop the coin out of. Then you slide the screwdriver under the object and "pop it" to the surface.

Thumbs up

I used to use a K-Bar GI Knife but after getting strange looks the past few years I switched to a Gator SS digging trowel which works great and pacifies the PC crowd

right now until I get something better I have been using a butter knife, I use it like Oz_IL and make a circle and put that clump of grass aside to put back into place when I am done.

Default Screwrench..

Unless I'm working an area where I think there may be old coins I don't want to damage and need something a little more delicate to probe around with, I usually use a screwrench. This is a combinataion tool for use with chainsaws. I like it better than just a screwdriver, it's a little easier on the hands when probing around. If it's a coin, once you have it pinpointed a few gentle probes till you feel it and you can usually pop them right out without even digging a plug. Little bit of experience and you get the hang of it fast. That and an old putty knife and I'm good to go in most cases. Bob

I wish I had a picture of my tool but I bought mine at Lowe's. It looks like an little larger Leshe digging tool..chromed with one edge that is serrated. Rubber handle...cost me $7.00. I wouldn't trade it for the world. Start in the garden section of your local store.
