Default High Power Problems

Ever be going along detecting with your faitful Ace250 and it starts going nuts i mean muliple ranging id with beep to bongs. It might just be your under those high power electrical wires. I ran into the problem yesterday and thought id messed up my detector so i went back towards my van well as soon as i cleared the wiers by 100 foot or so the detector went back to working just fine. Finally i looked up after going back toward the wires and as the detector went bonkers for some reason i looked up....BINGO i tried backing out from them and poof problem solved..well not sloved but found.Alas one area not to be disturbed by me anymore. I also tested a local park and guess what folks.....buried electrical there. Now the ones i hit overhead in the other place were primary transmission lines ie 112000 volts!! here its 220 volts underground. That still sent the ace in cardiac spasms when i got within a foot of em. So lesson learned if detector is going crazy look for possible electrical lines even underground ie find fusebox eyball to problem area then look for lights etc the box is suppling.Oh one last point DONT DIG AROUND THOSE LINES.We al want to share our tales of treasure found not fellow detectorists fried>
Till next time may all your finds be unique and your pockets sewed tight....

I've has similar experience.
Detecting on Galveston in Texas. A couple certain spots along the beach, it will shut the detector off.
batteries are new and and fully charged.
Works great other than those few spots.

Had thought maybe electrical buried or something.
Strange.

The only way I know around that problem is to use a adjustable frequency detector like the Garrett Infinium LS (I am not saying this is the only unit that can do this, but only one I know of). You can tune out the electrical interference and keep detecting. Of course you loose some frequencies, but with 96 of them and 32 adjustments you still have the ability to be working that high interference area.

Smile Not an unknown problem

I know some of the people who work at Garrett and when I pointed out the presence of the overhead power lines (at a sponsored hunt!) Mary ,one of Garrett people, knew there could be a problem. Not one of the Garrett owners/users hunted that section of the field.
The Shadows Fishers and beleive it or not the Bounty Hunters worked to some degree by reducing the sensitivity. It was the Half dollar hunt and halves ring out pretty good. I was using the Bounty hunter, one of their cheapest. Just some light rattling.
Throughout the rest of the hunt I used my Garrett 350. I now use a Troy X3. The Bounty Hunter makes a good loaner..... I need to find some survey stakes could you let me use one of your machines? Right!!!!!!!!!!

I have had this problem with my fisher also. What I do is to hunt in "reverse"that is to say hunt with the pinpoint button held down, it is all metal and usually gets rid of the interference, when you get a signal let off the pinpoint to get a descriminate reading. Then pinpoint it to dig. It is a pain but it does work in most areas that I have tried it. hope this helps, -good luck-

Other problems with electrical interference will be encountered if trying to work near home security systems....and electric fencers. Been there done that. My detector won't function worth spit around either.

This is known as 60 cycle interference. When the frequency of the interference matches (or is close to) the frequency of the detector it will start to pulse ; just like the 60 cycle does. This is why some detectors work better than others and some don't at all. It has nothing to do with how good or cheap a detector is.
