Default Battery state directly relates to numbr of silver finds

I have been noticing lately somthing which has probably always been the case with my whites machine, and I suspect it could be true with other brands as well.

When my batteries are freshly charged...or new nicads, whichever the case may be...my 6000DI Pro finds more silver. I'll start out the first day and find 4-5 and maybe sometimes 6 silver coins....and as the batteries' charge gets lower...the number of silver coins tapers off.

I have struggled to find the last 2 silver dimes in the park where I've been going...both 57 rosies, and one per 3 hour outing. My batteries crapped out last night.....so....To test my theory, I went to the park this morning with freshly charged batteries, and though I was there only an hour, I found a 34 merc and yet another 57 rosie.

Coincidence.....maybe...maybe not. More testing tonight after things cool a bit.

Default Just may be

You know I think the same thing with my ACE 250. Seems that I find more with charged batteries than when they get low. I don't know how to prove it but it seems to happen enough that I am keeping the batteries charged between every hunt.
Coincidence.....maybe...maybe not.

When any detector is operating at optimum voltage and optimum settings for the particular area , of course the power is there to pick out the deeper older targets. As with any radio , when the batteries drain you have to move the volume control higher to get the same performance. Since you can't do anything about the battery power once it starts to drain , you continually lose performance. this is a fact for just about every detector I have ever used.

It makes perfect sense.....but it's something that I just now had begun to notice, even though I've been doing this for years. I can find deeper copper signals up until about the last hour of the nicad pack's charge, but the silver I find usually comes within the first 3 hours of the charge....unless I'm in an area that has LOTS of silver.....and I haven't been in quite a number of years.

Thanks for your contributions to this discussion.

This is something my dealer pointed out to me right from the beginning, and there is a corollary problem: Not only do fully-charged batteries work better, Alkaline batteries work better than Ni-Cads or N-Mh batteries for the same reason. Fully-charged Alkaline batteries start out at 1.525-volts, whereas fully-charged Ni-Cads are 1.2-volts. Thus eight Alkalines total up to 12+ volts, but eight Ni-Cads are only 9.6-volts. My dealer recommends using Alkalines even with the White's DFX, which comes with a rechargeable battery set and charger.

I have found this to be happening also with mine (dfx)...with a fully charged battery...I find more good finds...as it is being drained the finds drop off a bit...also no rocket scientist but thinking when it is fully charged (an overnight charge)...it may be a bit over charged and I have to run the battery down a bit to start getting the best performance...just my thoughts and finds..... I have a rechargable battery and have been using it now for a few years 2 or 3... and it is going to be about time to replace it...the battery life is not lasting as long as it use to....I guess that's what happens on them quick charges....Still getting good detecting time out of it...and I have fast charged alot...
